Te Puni's Veggie Garden Update
Things are warming up in Wyndham this week, with hardly any rain forecasted, which is concerning. Therefore, it's essential to ensure our garden is well-watered. Get the hose or irrigation system ready, and be prepared for a higher water bill. Mulching and fertilizing your garden is crucial.
We're expecting 35°C on Wednesday, which poses the greatest risk to my leafy greens. I'll be keeping a close eye on them, especially during peak sun hours from midday to 6 pm.
We're now three weeks in, and things are growing well. Both field and cherry tomatoes are thriving, lettuce is doing nicely, and cucumber and rock melons are starting to show promise. Some seeds are still germinating, and I'm planning to add more plants this week. I haven't decided what to plant yet, but that decision will come by the end of the week.
Aside from the dry week ahead, the weather isn't too bad, mainly in the 20s. It's shaping up to be an interesting end to Spring in November – dry and cooler mornings, warmer days. This week's temperatures will range from 7°C to 35°C, making it hard to predict if we're in a dry spell or if there's still hope for rain in the coming weeks or next month. The climate is unpredictable these days due to global warming.
